Description:
First and foremost I have to thank WeedCough for co-forging this map with me. I truly believe that the setting he's brought to life with this map is one of the best we've ever seen in forge, utilizing minimalistic, superb piece usage and combining it with top notch lighting. His contribution to Aurora has been more valuable than I can express. Thank you WeedCough for breathing life into this map.
Aurora was initially designed and built during the 1v1 Smackdown Contest that took place in The Master Chief Collection. I took some of what I had learned from previous 1v1/2v2 forge maps along with what I had gleaned from hours of testing maps for the contest, and designed this simple room/atrium based map that I gave the name 'Rapture' in MCC.
With Halo 5, the design has remained essentially the same. However, there are some pretty major differences in how the map plays. The MCC version focused primarily on controlling Sniper and Camo in the mid map area. Meanwhile, the H5 version is basically broken with Sniper and Camo on the map. Additionally, the weakened utility weapon has strengthened the higher elevations. Both of these have had a major impact on the maps flow. I'm still not entirely certain it's playing as well as I'd like it to, but changes to the weapons and minor structural changes have resulted in a map that plays very solidly.
There's a Sentinal Beam that spawns every 2 minutes and a Damage Boost mid bridge spawning every 90 seconds. These are the primary items that will be contested. In addition, there's a carbine and a suppressor placed in sections of the map where players are likely to respawn, or be when they're at a positional disadvantage. These come up every minute, and provide players an opportunity to regain the advantage if used well.
