It's Monday, and it's about time for Map Feature! And what better map to feature than the first map submitted to Next Level Design by a member. The map is Dodecahedron, by Ｋａｎｔａｌｏｐｅ.
A Dodecahedron is "a three-dimensional shape having twelve plane faces, in particular a regular solid figure with twelve equal pentagonal faces". Can you wrap your mind around that? If you can't then you're going to have your hands full with this map, because it's a real mind f***. When you first set foot on the map, it will no doubt take you a few minutes to get your bearings. Where you expect to see floor and walls, you see them, but often they're halfway between where you'd expect them to be.
Dodecahedron is tailor made for head to head duels, rewarding the player who consistently puts themselves in the best positioning by rotating around the map. It features a Sentinel Beam, and a Speed Boost as the primary pickups that combatants will vie for. They can very well be the difference makers, so ignoring them would be a mistake.
I can't image a more fitting first Map Feature. Dodecahedron exemplifies exactly what Next Level Design is all about. It's the result of thinking outside of the box and pushing boundaries.
Please leave all comments and congratulations in the Map Thread
